Fallschirmjäger estate ‘Kampfgruppe Hartung’ West front. Quite large estate too Hauptmann Walter Marufke of Fallschirmjäger Artillerie Regiment 3. Marufke was part of Aufklärungs Gruppe 13 with Flak Regiment 7. He was awarded the Ek2 very early in the war on the 8.07.40 and later joined the FJ artillery Rgt. 3. He was promoted numerous times of which 3 documents are present, and finally became a Hauptmann. Fj Rgt 3 fought in Normandië during the invasions and Returned to Germany, to later be deployed in the Netherlands. In the second half of 1944 his unit was attached to Kampfgruppe Hartung. This unit is famous for the battles it fought during Market Garden in the area between Nijmegen and Arnhem. Kampfgruppe Hartung saw action to the right of Nijmegen and fought in the Wyler(Reichswald) area. Here Marufke was awarded the Ek1 for fighting of advancing US troops in the Aara. Shortly later pulled back and deployed shortly in the Hürtgenwald area to fight of US attacks. On the 12th of Dec Echtz(Hürtgenwald) fell and the unit was pulled back again, for this battle Marufke was awarded the Luftwaffe ground assault badge on 12.12.44. After being pulled back it was again deployed for actions during the battle of the bulge.
Manufke was killed somewhere in April 1945 and is burried in the Kassel area. At last he held the rank of Major.
